ABC Children's Aid Uganda helps protect children from exploitation and abuse in parts of Uganda, and supports children orphaned by HIV/AIDS or war conflict. We do this by:
- helping build schools
- providing shelter for children at risk of abuse
- providing good education
- and many more activities that improve the health and family income in children’s own communities

We believe strongly in the value of education, health care, and good food. We help the schools’ communities provide their children with at least one good meal each day.
Why Help is Needed
Uganda is a beautiful country in East Africa, a popular place for travellers, and is known as “the pearl of Africa”. Two things cast a shadow over its beauty: the loss of life in many families to HIV/aids, leaving many children orphaned. There was a long war in Northern Uganda that forced many families into poverty, surviving in overcrowded and dangerous camps.
Many thousands of children were left behind as orphans, and have to brave many dangers every day. ABC Children’s Aid Uganda has stepped in to help these children.

It Takes A Village to Raise A Child...
During the worst years of war in north Uganda, made worse by HIV/aids, ABC Children’s Aid Uganda was able to operate thanks to the support and gifts from donors and generous individuals. With a return to peace and a normal level of security, families and communities are in transition, preparing to rebuild their lives.
Donors now want a different relationship – one that makes sure that children will continue to be supported. More can now be done by the local communities, and even by ABC Children’s Aid itself.
How?
Mainly by seizing the opportunities that peace brings with it – going back to the land, and using the local resources at hand. Goodwill, and trust are an important part of that equation! Using the land to produce food and income are another. Teaching parents to take charge of their situation, becoming productive, joining and running their parent-teacher-association. Learning to run a local community Development Trust Fund.
